Glass Well Covers – Custom Walk-On Glass for Exposed Wells

Discovering a well during construction or renovation is increasingly common — and rather than filling it in, many owners choose to make a feature of it. Our bespoke glass well covers let you do exactly that: a toughened laminated glass panel sits flush with the surrounding floor, covering the well safely while leaving it fully visible beneath your feet.

Each cover is made to order in our Sheffield workshop to suit the exact diameter of your opening. The result is a striking architectural detail that preserves the history of the space without compromising safety or usability.

Construction & Materials

  • Glass — 25.5mm toughened laminated safety glass for openings up to 1000mm; 33mm for larger openings
  • Interlayer — Structural PVB; if a pane is broken, the laminate holds in place until replacement
  • Frame — Powder-coated steel, certified to BS 1090-2; supplied as a complete framed unit
  • Anti-slip — Optional chemical treatment applied to the glass surface; invisible to the naked eye, tested to PTV 36+ (dry conditions)

Specification

  • Load rating — Tested to a 2.0kN concentrated load and 1.5kN/m² uniform load, meeting UK building regulations for domestic floor loading (BS EN 1991-1-1)
  • Compliance — Frames to BS 1090-2; glass to BS EN 14449
  • Shape — Circular as standard to suit traditional well openings; other shapes available to order
  • Sizes — Made to your exact opening dimensions
  • Lead time — Approximately 6–8 weeks from order confirmation and drawing sign-off
